Equipment Operator - Whitney Plasma Punch

Purpose of Position: To operate the Whitney Plasma Punch machinery at maximum machine efficiency, generating highest part quality and performing general machine preventative maintenance based on safety and best practices in the steel service industry.  

 

Major Duties:

  • Efficient operation of numerically controlled cutting machine through challenging the capabilities of the machine and maximizing the utilization of the material consumed. Ensuring quality and customer expectations are met on every order.
  • Confirm order requirements are met, including the proper selection of job priority, material, gas flows, speed, tool settings, and program loading.
  • Enhance customer satisfaction by improving product quality through validation of machine positioning, tooling positioning, program accuracy and inspection of edge quality.
  • Make proper machine adjustments; edit programs, setup tooling, punches, drill bits, taps, etc. to optimize production quality and efficiency.
  • First part inspection on all production runs to specified tolerances and dimensional check. Including filling out customer QC check sheets.
  • Increase process flow and delivery response by assisting in cutting scrap, removing rems, assisting in crane operating & part processing.
  • Perform regular preventative maintenance of the equipment and tooling to ensure maximum run-time.
  • Participate in ensuring a safe work environment through best practices including promoting of all company safety policies, OSHA guidelines, maintenance of a 5S work station.
  • Fill out and allocate necessary forms and paperwork, including batch tickets, time cards, production reports, material pull lists, etc.
  • Handle material with use of overhead crane and forklift.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of one year of burning experience preferred plus a full understanding of material flow and routing.
  • Ability to read and interpret prints.
  • Must understand program editing, basic machine functions, safe operations, machine adjustments and reading, basic math, and dimensional knowledge. Able to read Standard English and metric tapes and micrometers and calipers.
  • Prior fabrication experience such as: crane operation, metal processing, and material handling equipment experience required.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to effectively schedule workflow.
